Uncork the Future Auction
Due to conflicts with the United Way Corporate Challenge, the date of
the auction has been moved to Tuesday, June 12th, at
the Fairdale. Start to encourage your friends and co-workers to buy a
ticket for a fun-filled evening. Tickets will be distributed at the March
meeting.
The committee will meet on Monday, February 12th at 6pm (note
date change) at Presbyterian Village in Williamsville (Louise Hoerner's
facility meeting room) Please RSVP via e-mail to Sue Mager or verbal
to Louise at the February meeting if you are able to attend, as sandwiches
will be provided.
Donation letters are out, so please take one or two and try to solicit
donations and gift certificates from outside the organization. Hairdressers,
dry cleaners, restaurants and other establishments that you visit frequently
are usually more than willing to donate when you present a letter. Uncork
the Future is our major scholarship/betterment of women fundraiser, and
items you donate or solicit should be new and of good quality. Be mindful
that expiration dates on gift certificates should be well after the June
12th date. If you or your company would like to donate a high value item,
there will be a silent auction to add to the fun.
Sue Fayle will collect donations this month, which are the "re-gifts" from
the holidays and cheer that we missed collecting in January. Baskets,
cello wrap and ribbon are always needed, as well as any other donations
you wish to bring to the meeting.
Contact Sue Mager, 826-5378 for further information.
Johanna's Law
On Friday, January 12th President Bush signed Johanna's Law into law.
Johanna's Law would authorize a national gynecologic cancer early detection
and awareness campaign directed at women and their providers. BPW/USA
and its members worked diligently on behalf of Johanna's Law for over
a year. It was one of the three pieces of legislation lobbied on during
the 2006 Policy and Action Conference, and BPW members continued to contact
their Members of Congress about it throughout 2006. Congratulations to
BPW/USA members for their hard work in helping to get this important
piece of legislation passed into law!
