Displaced Home Maker

DO YOU KNOW THIS WOMAN?

A displaced homemaker….your neighbor, your relative, your friend, your co-worker… She is typically in her middle years (30-60+) whose main career for a number of years has been to be a homemaker. She may have a part time job but her focus has been on home and kids. She has been monetarily supported by the income of another, usually a husband. She becomes a displaced homemaker when the support she has been receiving is cut or disappears requiring that she focus on financially supporting herself (and her children). Sometimes this happens because of divorce, sometimes because of the death or illness of the husband and sometimes because of the job loss of the husband. Due to this situation, she must find a new focus – a new career.

This half-day program will include workshops, lunch and will be at no cost to those who qualify as a displaced homemaker. Workshops will include topics such as self-esteem, financial power, preparing for re-entry to the workforce as well as presentations and displays from Everywoman Opportunity Center. BPW members are encouraged to attend at a nominal cost, and become mentors. More detailed information will be provided upon request.

BPW’s mission and vision is to advocate for women’s economic self-sufficiency. For more information or to refer a person, please contact Everywoman Opportunity Center at 847-1120 or Lucy Mysiak, Buffalo/Amherst BPW at 683-5822 or by email at: autumlane@att.net
